  • Mixing Bowl and Spoon
  • Measuring Cup
  • Old Towls or Rags
  • Paper Towels
  • Saran Wrap or Plastic shower Cap
  • Plastic Gloves
  • Carrot Bag or Cone/Plastic Bag for easy application to roots

2. Mix Henna Paste

  • Mix 1 Cup henna powder with 1 Cup orange juice
  • Cover with plastic wrap and leave overnight or 12 hours at 70 degrees
  • Add 1/2 Cup to 1 Cup purified water till it's a yogurt like consistency
  • The henna paste mixture is ready to use after 12 to 24 hours

3. Protect your skin, clothes and work area

  • Pin an old towel or rag around your neck to prevent clothing and shoulders from becoming stained.
  • You can apply a light coat of vaseline along temlples and hairline on forehead to prevent skin from becoming stained.

4. Prepare your hair

  • For the best, most even coverage of roots apply the henna paste in sections.
  • Divide your hair into 4 or more sections depending on length and thickness.
  • Clip each section to hold it out of your way.

Wearing gloves while you apply the henna paste will prevent your hands and nails from becoming stained

5. Apply henna paste

  • Working with one section of hair at a time apply henna paste beginning at the roots
  • Continue applying henna paste through the section of hair in small chunks making sure each area is thoroughly covered.
  • Work henna paste all the way to the ends of the hair.
  • Move on to the next section of hair.
  • When all your hair is evenly covered with henna paste, pile it on the top of your head
  • Pinning or clipping the pile of hair to hold it in place.

6. Wrap up your hair

  • When all your hair is evenly covered with henna paste, pile it on the top of your head
  • Pinning or clipping the pile of hair to hold it in place may be helpful.
  • Wrap your head with saran wrap or a plastic shower cap to prevent the paste from drying out or staining furniture

7. Keep Warm

  • Henna works best with a bit of warmth. For richer, deeper color use a blow dryer to keep your hair warm.

8. Rinse out the Henna Paste

  • Using cool water and a conditioner only rinse the henna paste out of your hair. You may want to use a sink with a drain catcher to prevent your plumbing from being gunked up.

9. Relax

  • The first 24 to 48 hours after coloring your hair safely and naturally with henna the color may be quite bright. Relax, don't worry. Over 1 to 2 days the color will tone down and look natural and healthy.
