Yemen

In Yemenite wedding rituals the henna ceremony is called hinne and is the highlight of the wedding. The brides parents will throw a party with food, music and dancing that the whole village will attend. The brides dress is often so elaborate and ornate that she is unable to move about the party due to the great weight. In a procession known as zaffeh, the bride will receive offerings of henna. The female guests will carry trays of flowers and candles and hold henna on their heads while dancing. The henna is placed in front of the bride and water added as guests rub a bit on her palms. The bride will be covered in kisses, mehndi, and money by the end of the evening.
